Ziegert started the day four-under par and in second place. On her first hole, #4, she hit her tee shot short of the bunker and the fun began from there.
"I hit my shot into the bunker, and there was a rock that I had to hit around," said Ziegert. "Then I had to hit a 15-20-foot putt to make par for the hole. After I birdied the next hole, I knew that my putting was going to help me today and that I was going to have to fight for every shot."
After three bogeys in her first 11 holes, Ziegert birdied the par-3 #15 and made par the next three holes. She birdied her16th hole, the par-5 #1, to get back to even par, before bogeying her 17th hole (#2) and made par on her last hole for her 73.
"On my next to last hole, I hit it way right of the hole and my second shot hit a tree," said Ziegert. "My third shot spun off the green, and I two-putted for the bogey. I was nervous playing my last hole and hit my wedge short but was able to get the ball up and down for par.
"Putting was key for me during these three rounds. I didn't always hit the ball where I needed, but I ended up usually making a good score on the hole."
Megan Osland recorded her second top-20 finish of the semester as she shot a 75 on Wednesday for a 225. Rachelle Reali shot a 76 and ended with a 230, good for 32nd. Tiffany Nichols was 45ht at 237, while Jordanne Barr was 51st at 240.
"With everything Maddie has gone through personally and to play the way she has the last three tournaments, I am very proud of her and am expecting more good things next semester," said Spartan head coach John Dormann. "Megan had a solid first semester for us, and we look for her to keep improving her game. Other players now need to step up and help us win tournaments."
