Women's Golf Defeats Stanford in Dual Match

Stanford-Madeleine Ziegert really likes the Stanford Golf Course.  For her second consecutive contest, she led the San Jose State women's golf team with the low score of the day.  On Friday, Ziegert shot a one-under par 70, to lead the Spartan team to a win over Stanford in a dual match.

Last season, Ziegert tied for medalist honors at the NCAA West Regional played at the Stanford Golf Course.  She shot her lowest career round at the West Regional with a 67 in the first round.

The Spartans won the dual match with a 300 team score.  Katrina Delen-Briones shot a 73, followed by Jennifer Brumbaugh at 74, Stephanie Gibri at 83 and Jody Ho at 84.  Playing as individuals was Tiffany Nichols who shot 74 and Dorothy Schwartz at 81.

"We played really well today," said Spartan head coach John Dormann.  "We still need to get four solid scores for us, but today's match was a good step in the direction for next week and the rest of the year."

San Jose State plays at the Las Vegas Collegiate Invitational next Monday through Wednesday, October 25-27, in Boulder City, Nev.  Live scoring is available on www.golfstat.com, and a link is on the Spartan website.
