Realli, De Guzman Lead Spartans On Day One

Stanford, Calif.-Rachelle Reali and Regina De Guzman each shot a 75 in the first round of the Stanford Intercollegiate hosted by Dr. Condoleezza Rice at the Stanford Golf Course Friday.  The Spartans finished 14th at 303 after day one.

Reali and De Guzman were each +4 after the first day on the par-71 course.  Reali had a birdie on her second hole of the day (#11) and made 12 pars in her round.  After a rough start to her first round with four bogeys and a birdie through five holes, De Guzman shot +1 for her final 13 holes including pars on her final nine holes (#1-9).

Kathleen Rojas shot a 76 on her round with two birdies, while Megan Osland and Cha Cha Willhoite each shot a 77 and made one birdie on their round.

San Jose State shot a 303 to finish 14th, two shots behind Pepperdine and five shots behind Oregon.  The tournament field features 17 teams, 15 that are ranked in the top-50 and the top four schools in the Golfstat poll (#1 Arizona, #2 Washington, #3 Southern California and #4 UC Davis).

"We did not make birdies today which contributed to our slow start," said Spartan head coach John Dormann.  "We have to get out to a better start tomorrow.  All five players were competitive and played with some of the top players in the country."

Second round action begins at 8:30 a.m., Saturday at the Stanford Golf Course.
