Two Spartans In Top-Five, Women's Golf Fifth After Day Two

Sammamish, Wash.-Katrina Delen-Briones and Madeleine Ziegert remained in the top-five individually after the second round of the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational Tuesday at the Sahalee Country Club. As a team, San Jose State shot a 311 to finish the day in fifth place, four shots ahead of Washington and six shots behind San Francisco.

Delen-Briones shot a 75 in her second round that included three birdies to finish in a tie for third at 148. She is tied with four other players to lead the tournament with six birdies. Ziegert shot a 76 and is tied for fifth at 149. She is tied with two other players for the tournament lead in pars with 27. Ziegert made 14 pars in her round on Tuesday.

"Kat and Maddie had another fine day," said San Jose State head coach John Dormann. "They are playing great right now for us. Now, we have one more day to go out and shoot good scores. This has been a good experience for the entire team."

Cristina Corpus and Kanika Minocha each shot an 80 in round two, while Kimberly Punyasavatsut recorded an 86.

The Spartans begin the final round of the tournament Wednesday at 8:30 a.m.
