Osland, Ziegert Shoot 71, Women's Golf Sixth Now

Sammamish, Wash.-For the first time this season, two Spartan women's golfers shot under-par scores in the same round, and San Jose State moved up to sixth in the team standings at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational played at the Sahalee Country Club.

Freshman Megan Osland shot her first under-par round of her collegiate career with a 71 on Tuesday and is currently sixth in the individual standings at 148.  She finished her round with four birdies including back-to-backs on par-4 holes 15 and 16.

Senior Madeleine Ziegert rebounded from one of her worst rounds of the season on Monday to shoot a 71 in her second round.  She is now tied for 17th at 152.  Ziegert started her round strong with back-to-back birdies on holes 10 and 11 (The Spartans started on hole 10 Tuesday.) and ended the day with five birdies.

"Megan and Maddie did nice jobs on their rounds today," said Spartan head coach John Dormann.  "Megan had a lot of good opportunities for birdies.  Overall I am very pleased with both of their performances and expect to see more of the same from both tomorrow."

Tiffany Nichols shot a 79 on Tuesday and is currently 29th at 148.  Jordanne Barr and Rachelle Reali are tied for 54th at 164.  Reali shot an 81 during the second round, while Barr rounded out the scoring with an 84.

"This was a positive day for us," said Dormann.  "We are playing a notoriously hard golf course that has a great history of hosting premier events.  The course is narrow, demanding off the tee and challenges you on every hole.  We have to back this round up with another solid round tomorrow and finish the tournament on a positive note."

Final round action begins Wednesday morning at 8 a.m., with San Jose State beginning play at 8:09 a.m.  Live scoring is available on www.golfstat.com.
