Two Top-Six Finishes For Women's Golf At Ron Moore Intercollegiate

Highlands Ranch, Colo. With a two-under 70 Wednesday afternoon, Erica Moston solidified her third-place finish at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate.  Cristina Corpus also had another solid round with an even-par 72 to finish tied for sixth.  The Spartans finished third at the tournament with an 888 including a 297 on Wednesday.

Moston shot under-par for the second consecutive tournament this season.  During her third round, she recorded four birdies on holes five, nine, 10 and 13.  Moston has not shot worse than par for any of her six rounds this year.

Corpus also had three birdies on her round Wednesday on holes two, seven and 18.  She has shot par or better in four of her six rounds played this season.

“Erica and Cristina played great again today,” said San Jose State head coach John Dormann.  “Erica is playing with a lot of confidence and ease right now and is very consistent on the course.  She is very composed when she is playing and is capitalizing on her ability to put together solid rounds.

“Cristina is very consistent right now.  She has been working really hard at practice and her short game has vastly improved.  Cristina is a good ball striker and her scores now show how much she has improved.”

Other scores for San Jose State included Katrina Delen-Briones with a 77, Madeleine Ziegert with a 78 and Shraddhanjali Singh at 82.  Kanika Minocha, playing as an individual, shot an 83.

“We still need to get better as a team,” said Dormann.  “We have plenty of time until our next tournament to iron out our problems and learn to play better.  With golf, you just cannot turn your game on and off.  You have to put in the time to practice, and we are going to make a new commitment to our game.”

San Jose State next plays at the Kent Youel Invitational in Honolulu, Hawaii, on October 28 and 29.
