Brumbaugh Finishes 16th, Women's Golf 11th In First Tournament

Fort Collins, Colo.-Jennifer Brumbaugh finished in the top-20 for the first time in her collegiate career and shot her first under-par round on Tuesday as the San Jose State women's golf team placed 11th at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic.

Brumbaugh shot a one-under par 71 in her final round to finish the tournament at two-over par, tying for 16th place. She made six birdies in her third round and finished the tournament with 12 birdies.

"Jennifer worked really hard over the summer, and her dedication paid off at this tournament," said San Jose Stat head coach John Dormann. "She had a shaky start in her first round, but she gathered herself and played like she has been in practice."

Katrina Delen-Briones shot a 74 on Tuesday including two birdies to finish with a 223, good for 30th place. Madeleine Ziegert was 56th after shooting a 78 for a three-round total of 229. Jody Ho shot a 75, including two birdies, on Tuesday to finish 81st at 239.

Dorothy Schwartz made her final round of her first collegiate tournament as she made an eagle on the par-5 second hole. Her second shot left her about 10 yards short of the green, and she hit a chip that hit the flag stick and dropped in for her first collegiate eagle. She finished tied for 60th at 230.

"I am disappointed with our finish," said Dormann. "Our first round put us too far back to compete. On this course, you have to do all of the little things, and we did not which led to big scores. After this tournament, we know what we need to fix for our next tournament in two weeks."

San Jose State next plays at the Golf Week Challenge in Vail, Colo., Sept. 26-28.
