Women's Golf Opens Year At Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic

The 2010-11 San Jose State women's golf begins the year at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic this Monday and Tuesday, September 13 and 14 at the Ptarmigan Country Club in Fort Collins, Colo.

The tournament features 16 teams playing two rounds on Monday and the final 18 holes on Tuesday.  Live scoring for all 54 holes is available at www.golfstat.com, and www.sjsuspartans.com also has a link under "Live Stats."

The Spartan lineup for the first tournament of the season consists of Jennifer Brumbaugh, Madeleine Ziegert, Katrina Delen-Briones, Jody Ho, and Dorothy Schwartz.  Schwartz will be making her first collegiate start in a Spartan uniform.

Teams participating in the tournament include Baylor, California, Colorado, Colorado State, Fresno State, Idaho, Illinois, Long Beach State, Louisville, New Mexico State, Northern Colorado, Oregon, UTEP, Texas Tech and Wyoming.

"This is a very strong field for our first tournament of the year," said San Jose State head coach John Dormann.  "We are going to play the best we can and hopefully be more consistent than we are in practice.  This course lends itself to under-par scores, so we need to shoot in the 60s to be successful."

San Jose State is coming off a successful year that found the team winning its second consecutive Western Athletic Conference championship.  Ziegert tied for medalist honors at the NCAA West Regional, and the Spartans advanced to the 2010 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships in Wilmington, N.C.
