Moston Rallies Before Exiting U.S. Amateur Match Play

Eugene, Ore.-----For the second day in a row, San Jose State University senior-to-be Erica Moston mounted a charge on the back nine holes of the United States Women’s Amateur golf championship.

On the final round of stroke play (August 5), four birdies in a five-hole sequence powered her into the 64-player match play competition. Down three holes through seven, Moston cut the deficit to one with a string of back-nine pars before dropping her first-round match to Sydney Burlison of Salinas, 2-and-1.

The 2008 Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year only had one birdie in the round, a four on the par-5, 13th hole.

This summer, Moston advanced to match play action in the U.S. Women’s Publinx and U.S. Women’s Amateur, the two major amateur championships sponsored by the United States Golf Association (USGA) and exited the championship in the first round losing 2-and-1.
