Five Former Spartans Playing At Ricoh Women's British Open

Southport, England—Across the Atlantic Ocean, San Jose State University and the women’s golf program is represented by five former players at the Ricoh Women’s British Open. 

Juli Inkster leads the alums as she shot a one-under 71 on Thursday at The Royal Birkdale Golf Club.  She is currently tied for ninth with six other players.  Inkster was the early clubhouse leader after finishing her round with five consecutive pars and recorded four birdies on the front nine for a 33.  Despite winning seven Major Championships in her career, Inkster has never won the trophy at the Women’s British Open.

Former All-American Janice Moodie is tied for 16th with an even-par 72.  She ended her round with an eagle on the par 5 18th hole.

Georgina Simpson finished with a 74 and is tied for 44th after finishing her round with two birdies.  Pat Hurst is tied for 79th with a 76 on her round, while Karen Margrethe Juul shot an 80.

Players begin second round action at 6:30 a.m. local time (10:30 p.m. PDT Thursday night).  Moodie is the first group of the day to start round two.  Live scoring is available on www.lpga.com, while television coverage on ESPN begins at 6:00 a.m. PDT on Friday.
