Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.-----San Jose State University’s Erica Moston will be an alternate for the 2008 United States Women’s Open Championship set for June 26-29 at the Interlachen Country Club in Edina, Minn.

Moston, who completed her junior season as the 2008 Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year, fired a 36-hole total of 153 at The Farms Golf Club, one of nine sectional sites for Championship qualifying.

With 14 qualifying spots and two alternate positions available, Moston completed regulation play in a four-way tie for 11th place. Japan’s Chieko Amanuma, Vanessa Brockett from Los Angeles and 15-year-old amateur Kristen Park from Sunny Hills High School in Fullerton also finished with 153 totals and claimed the final three spots from this sectional qualifying.

In the 156-player field, San Jose State will be represented by 1999 and 2002 U.S. Open champion Juli Inkster, Pat Hurst and Janice Moodie. Inkster and Hurst were exempt from regional and sectional qualifying. Moodie shot a 142 in sectional qualifying in Rockville, Md., to earn her place at the 2008 U.S. Women’s Open Championship.
