Athens, Ga.—The San Jose State women’s golf team finished in 19th at the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championships at the University of Georgia Golf Club after shooting a 327 in the final round Friday afternoon.
The Spartans finished in the top-20 of the national championships for the first time since 2001 when the team placed 17th at Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
Kathleen Rojas led the Spartans in the final round with an 80. The highlight of her round came on her third hole, the par-5 #12. She went for the green in two shots and over shot the green. Rojas then chipped in from the right side for an eagle, the only one for the team all week. She finished the tournament tied for 104th.
Jennifer Brumbaugh and Rachelle Reali each shot an 82 on the day. Brumbaugh finished the tournament tied for 58th, while Reali tied for 85th.
Megan Osland shot an 83 Friday to finish tied for 120th. Regan De Guzman, who led the tournament after day one, shot an 84 in the final round and ended the four days tied for 42nd.
“Obviously, our play today was not the outcome we had in mind,” said Spartan head coach John Dormann. “Overall, the way our team made it to nationals and the way we played the first three days were outstanding.”
