Women's Golfers Honored

The 2015-16 San José State University women's golf team handed out awards on Tuesday. 

My Leander received the Player of the Year Award. She recorded the third-best scoring average in a season at 73.07 this year and was received first team All-Mountain West honors. Leander set the school record with the lowest individual round by score with a 65 in the first round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown.

Abegail Arevalo was named the Freshman of the Year. She joined the Spartans for the spring semester and had a 75.50 stroke average in 14 rounds played. She finished sixth at the Mountain West Championship where she shot a 68 in the final round. Arevalo shot a season-low 68 in the final round of the championship.

Fanny Johansson was named the team's Scholar Athlete. She was a 2014-15 Mountain West Scholar Athlete and a two-year member of the Spartan team.

The two All-Mountain West honorees also received their awards at the banquet. Leander was a first-team selection, while Regan De Guzman was selected to the second team. De Guzman finished the year with a 73.75 stroke average, the 10th-best in school history.
