Women's Golf Selected For NCAA West Regional At Stanford

Back-to-back Western Athletic Conference champion San Jose State women’s golf team will play at NCAA West Regional, May 6-8, at the Stanford Golf Course.  The Spartans earned the conference’s automatic bid and received word from the NCAA Monday about where they would play.

The regional marks the third time this school year that San Jose State has played at the Stanford Golf Course.  In the fall, the Spartans played eighth out of 15 teams at the Stanford Intercollegiate.  At the Peg Barnard Invitational in February, San Jose State was sixth out of 11 teams on the par 71 course.

San Jose State is one of 24 teams playing at the West Regional.  Of the 24 teams, the top eight advance to the NCAA Championships May 19-22 in at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, N.C.  The top two individuals, not on an advancing team, also advance to the championships.

Teams participating at the West Regional include UCLA, Alabama, Arizona, Ohio State, Virginia, Stanford, LSU, California, Texas A&M, Texas, UC Davis, Arkansas, UNLV, San Jose State, San Francisco, Idaho, UC Irvine, Iowa State, Maryland, Colorado State, Texas State, Pennsylvania and Portland State.

“We are excited to be playing at Stanford for the NCAA Regional,” said Spartan head coach John Dormann.  “We have good knowledge of the course and the different ways it can be played.  We just need to go out and play our best for three days.”

All three rounds will have live scoring on www.golfstat.com, and a link is provided on the Spartan web site under “Live”.  Spectators may also attend the rounds as parking is available one first-come, first-served basis at the Stanford Golf Course.
