Moston's 2nd Round Among WAC's Best

Fresno, Calif.---Erica Moston of San Jose State was one of three players with the day’s low score, a one-under par 73, in the second round of the Western Athletic Conference women’s golf championship.

Moston, the defending conference tournament champion, had two birdies and three bogeys in her round on the par 72, 6,125-yard Sunnyside Country Club course. The junior from Belmont, Calif., has a 36-hole total of 151 and is tied for fifth place, six strokes behind Hawaii’s Corie Hou, who matched Moston’s 73 on Tuesday. Fresno State’s Laura Luethke and first-round co-leader Suteera Chanachai of New Mexico State are tied for second at 147.

In the team competition, San Jose State is fourth at 616, 13 strokes behind championship leader Hawaii, which is at 603. Fresno State moved into second place at 610 with the day’s low team score of 301. New Mexico State is third at 614 in the seven-team field.

“If you’re not hitting your irons solidly going for the green, you’re going to make bogeys. We’re not hitting the ball well,” said San Jose State coach John Dormann. “It’s been a struggle (this week). Everybody is fighting at the same time to play well.”
