Women's Golf Low Score Of Day, Finishes Third

Fresno, Calif.—Three Spartan women’s golfers finished in the top-20, and helped San Jose State shoot the low round of the day as the team finished third at the Fresno State Lexus Classic with an 896 at the Copper River Country Club.

San Jose State shot the lowest team score of the day with a 291, eight shots better than their lowest round on Monday.  The team was three-under par on the back-nine Tuesday including three players who shot one-under on their last nine holes.  The Spartans ended the tournament four shots from champion Long Beach State and three shots behind second-place Tulsa.

Jennifer Brumbaugh recorded her second top-10 finish of the season as she tied for ninth at 223.  She shot a one-over 73 in her final round including one-under over the last nine holes.

Megan Osland was one of two Spartans to shoot an even-par 72 on Tuesday, including one-under on the back nine.  She finished the tournament tied for 12th at 225, her third top-20 finish this spring.

Regan De Guzman finished tied for 18th at 226, and shot a 74 in her final round.  She was even for her final 14 holes, one birdie, one bogey and 12 pars.

Kathleen Rojas shot a 77 and finished tied for 22nd at 227.  Rachelle Reali shot the other 72 on Tuesday and finished the tournament tied for 35th at 230.  She also shot one-under par over the last nine holes and was two-under for her final 14 holes.

“We played well today, especially being three-under as team on the back nine,” said Spartan head coach John Dormann.  “Our short game was a lot better today, but we still need to take better advantage of the par 5s.  We played better and smarter in today’s round and are now looking forward to heading to Arizona for the WAC Championship.”

San Jose State now readies for the 2013 Club Glove Western Athletic Conference Championship next Monday-Wednesday, April 22-24, at the Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz.
