Women's Golf T4th At Fresno State Lexus Classic

Fresno, Calif.—The San Jose State women’s golf team is tied for fourth with Oregon State at 605 after the first two rounds of the Fresno State Lexus Classic at the Copper River Country Club.  Individually, Jennifer Brumbaugh and Kathleen Rojas are tied for 10th at 150.

The Spartans shot a 306 in the first round, led by Rojas’ 74, as she was tied for ninth after the round. Rojas made three of the team’s seven birdies, recording them on the par-5 #13, par-3 #14 and par-5 #3.   Regan De Guzman shot a 76 with a birdie and 13 pars, while Brumbaugh shot a 77.  Rachelle Reali and Megan Osland each shot a 79.

With a bit calmer winds in the second round, San Jose State lowered their score by seven shots with a 299.  Brumbaugh shot a 73 with three birdies on her round to led the Spartans. Osland then shot a 74 with two birdies, followed by Rojas and De Guzman at 76.  De Guzman hit the team’s only eagle of the day on the par-5, 461-yard #11.  Reali rounded out the scoring with a 79.

Brumbaugh and Rojas are tied for 10th with three others at 150.   De Guzman is tied for 22nd at 152, while Osland is tied for 28th at 153.  Reali is tied for 53rd at 158.

“For whatever reason, we could not get anything going today,” said Spartan head coach John Dormann.  “Regan missed a four-foot putt for birdie on her first hole of the day, and that seemed to be an omen for the rest of the day.  We know we are capable of putting up really good scores and hope to do that tomorrow.”

Final round action begins Tuesday morning with tee times starting at 7 a.m. The Spartans start action at 7:40 a.m., off of the first tee and play with Oregon State and Nevada.  Live scoring is available on www.golfstat.com.
