Women's Golf Eighth At Pacific Coast Intercollegiate

Half Moon Bay, Calif.-The Spartan women's golf team started the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate with a strong first round, shooting a 299 and four of the five players were in the top-20.  However, the winds kicked up in the second round and San Jose State shot a 316 and finish the day in eighth place.

Playing at the Half Moon Bay Golf Links, Madeleine Ziegert leads the team at 7-over, 151, to tie for 17th place.  She shot a 75 in the first round with three birdies and followed that with a 76 in the second round.

Jody Ho is tied for 26th and shot the team's low score of the day with a 74 in the first round.  She had three birdies in the rounds, but two double bogeys and a bogey led to two-over par.  Ho shot a 79 in the second round for a 153.

Tiffany Nichols and Jennifer Brumbaugh each shot a 75 in the first round.  Nichols shot an 80 in round two and is tied for 31st at 155.  Her second round included her first collegiate eagle on hole one, par 4, 385 yards.  She holed-out from 128 yards with a 9-iron, hit the middle of the green and the ball rolled in the cup.

Brumbaugh shot an 81 in round two and is tied for 38th at 156.  Rachelle Reali rounded out the scoring with a 76 in round one and an 82 in round two for a 158 to tie for 50th.

"There are positive signs on the course for this team," said Spartan head coach John Dormann.  "We just need to be more consistent in our rounds and need to finish our rounds better."

Final round action begins Tuesday with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.  The Spartans begin on holes eight, nine, 10, 11 and 12, and play with Northwestern and Fresno State.
