Kapalua, Hawaii—Regan De Guzman recorded her third top-10 finish of the spring, and the San Jose State women’s golf team finished tied for seventh at the Anuenue Spring Break Classic in Maui.
The Spartans shot a 295 in the final round Wednesday and finished the three-round tournament with an 890, tying with UC Davis for seventh place. UCLA won the tournament at 10-under par 854. The Bruins shot a 12-under, 276 in the final round.
De Guzman shot a 73 for her final round and finished tied for ninth with a one-under 215, her second tournament this season she finished under par. In her final round, De Guzman made three birdies and hovered at even par for most of the round before a bogey on her final hole left her at one-over par for the day.
Megan Osland also shot a 73 Wednesday to finish tied for 30th at 222. She too hovered around even par for most of the round, making three birdies but recording a bogey on her final hole.
Jennifer Brumbaugh finished tied for 37th at 224, after shooting a 75 in her final round. She started her round strong, making birdies on her first (#5) and third (#7) holes of the day and added another on #2.
Rachelle Reali had her best round of the tournament with a 74 and finished tied for 64th at 231. She too started the day strong with birdies on her second (#8) and fifth holes (#11) and flirted with even par for much of the day before bogeys on #1 and #6 left her at plus-two.
Kathleen Rojas rounded out team’s scoring with a 79 and finished tied for 74th at 235. She made one birdie and nine pars on her round.
“We had a solid tournament and played good today,” said Spartan associate head coach Dana Dormann. “We had a team effort today but are disappointed for not finishing strong. We are learning that every shot counts in the course of a tournament.”
San Jose State next competes at the Fresno State Lexus Golf Classic on Monday and Tuesday, April 15-16.
