Delen-Briones, Ziegert Tied For 16th At MountainView Collegiate

Tucson, Ariz.-Katrina Delen-Briones and Madeleine Ziegert each shot a 146 for two rounds on Friday and are in the top-20 at the MountainView Collegiate Invitational.  San Jose State used a strong second round and moved up five places from the first round and is ninth heading into the final round on Saturday.

Both players are tied for 16th heading into the final round. Ziegert shot the team's best score in the first round with an even-par 72.  She had six birdies in that first round of the day and shot a 74 in the second round with one birdie and 15 pars.

Delen-Briones started the day with a 74 in her first round that two birdies and 12 pars.  She then shot a 72 in round two and had three birdies in the round.

"Kat and Maddie had solid rounds for us today," said Spartan coach John Dormann.  "They hung in for all 36 holes today."

Tiffany Nichols rebounded from her 78 in the first round to shoot a 73 in round two.  She had two birdies in the second round to go with three in the first round.

After shooting an 84 in the first round, Jennifer Brumbaugh started the second round by making birdies on holes six, nine and 14 to go to three-under par.  But a string of four bogeys and a double-bogey had her finish at 75.

Rachelle Reali rounded out the Spartan scoring shooting a 79 and 81 on the day.  She had four birdies in her two rounds.

"We made a lot of birdies today and had stretches where we played well," said Dormann.  "However, we still have stretches where we don't play well, and we have to learn how to over come that.  We hope to have a good round tomorrow to improve our position in the tournament."

Final round action begins at 7:30 a.m. PDT with a shotgun start.  Live scoring is available on www.golfstat.com.
