Former Spartan All-American women's golfer Pat Hurst is going to try to pay back her alma mater with a donation if she is able to finish in the top-10 at the RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup this weekend.
Hurst and a field of 134 players will compete for a $1 million purse that will be donated to charity. The tournament takes place on the Wildfire Golf Club at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort and Spa in Phoenix. The winner receives $200,000, 2nd: $100,000; 3rd: $55,000; 4th: 40,000; 5th: $30,000; 6th: $25,000; 7th: $20,000; 8th: $15,000, 9th: $10,000; 10th: $5,000.
Hurst has designated the Spartan women's golf program as her charity of choice if she is able to finish in the top-10. She played at San Jose State from 1987-1991 and was a two-time All-American. Hurst won the 1989 NCAA Individual Championship
"It is an honor that Pat would designate us as her charity of choice," said Spartan head coach John Dormann. "We are working on building a first-class short-game facility, and this donation be a step in the right direction for creating this facility."
