Women's Golf Finishes Tied For 6th At Cal Classic

Pleasanton, Calif.-After shooting the second-lowest round of the day, the San Jose State women's golf team finished tied for sixth at the Cal Classic with a two-round total of 606 at the Ruby Hill Golf Club.

The Spartans rebounded from their first round to shoot a 295 in the second round on Tuesday.  Collectively, they made 13 birdies on the day compared to just six in the first round.

"We had a good bounce back today," said Spartan head coach John Dormann.  "We did not start well, but we stayed patient and stuck with our plan.  We hit more greens today and had more opportunities to make birdies.

"Our strength is we can drive the ball really well and pretty far.  Today we did a better job managing our short game."

Megan Osland recorded her second top-15 finish in as many weeks.  She finished tied for ninth at 147 after shooting a one-under 71 in the second round and making five birdies.

Regan De Guzman shot an even-par 72 to finish 17th at 150, her second top-20 finish in two weeks, and made four birdies on the round.

"Megan and Regan each had nice days," said Dormann.  "They had some nice rallies on some really tough holes and each made some birdies and pars from difficult situations."

Cha Cha Willhoite, Jennifer Brumbaugh and Rachelle Reali each shot a 76.  Willhoite finished 29th at 154 and made 15 pars on her round.  Brumbaugh finished 34th at 155 and made three birdies.  Reali finished 44th at 162 with a birdie on Tuesday.

The Spartans now host the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational next Monday and Tuesday, March 4 and 5, at the Almaden Golf and Country Club in South San Jose.
