Osland 10th, Women's Golf 6th at Peg Barnard

Stanford, Calif.-Spartan women's golfer Megan Osland recorded her second top-10 finish of the season, and San Jose State finished sixth at the Peg Barnard Invitational at the Stanford Golf Course.

Osland shot a 74 Sunday to finish at 150, and tie for 10th place, her second top-10 finish this season.  She had a rough start to her second round, opening with a bogey, triple bogey and bogey on the first three holes to go +5. Osland made up three strokes over the next three holes with birdies to be two-over par through seven holes.  She then made par on 10 of the next 11 holes with a bogey on her next-to-last hole to finish with a three-over 74 on the par 71 course.

"I had a pretty bad start with my first three holes today, but I came back in the rest of my round," said Osland. "Coach gave me a little talk after those holes, and I realized I needed to get myself back in the game.  During the comeback, my whole mindset changed, and I started focusing more on the little things.  My putting saved me over my final 15 holes, with my birdie putts ranging from 20 down to three feet."

Madeleine Ziegert and Jordanne Barr finished tied for 20th at 153.  Ziegert shot a 77 on a round that included three birdies, while Barr shot a 78 and made four birdies on her round.  Tiffany Nichols tied for 30th at 157 after shooting a 78 Sunday, while Jennifer Brumbaugh tied for 34th at 159 and shot an 80 in her final round.

Playing as an individual, freshman Kathleen Rojas recorded her first top-five finish after shooting a 73 on Sunday for a 148.  She had three birdies on her second round and finished with six for the tournament.

"This tournament was a good test to start 2012," said Spartan head coach John Dormann.  "We had some good points and not so good points. We still need to work on making birdies, but we limited our big numbers this week which is something we have been working on in practice.

"I liked the way our freshmen battled the entire tournament, and they put together some good holes today and finished pretty well.  Kathleen's finish is a good sign for our team.

San Jose State next competes at the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational, March 5 and 6, at the Almaden Golf and Country Club.
