Women's Golf 5th At Qdoba Invitational After 36 Holes

Miami Lakes, Fla.----- San Jose State University is entrenched in fifth place after 36 holes of the Qdoba Invitational women’s golf tournament.

The Spartans posted second-round team score of 305 for a 607 total on the par 72, 6,210-yard Don Shula Golf Course. East Carolina retained its lead in the team competition with its 590 total. Defending champion Louisville at 598, Miami at 599 and Virginia at 605 are ahead of San Jose State.

“We got off to a rocky start. We didn’t play well early on, but rallied the last nine holes,” said San Jose State coach John Dormann. “Our putting is getting in the way of scoring well.

“We have okay scores, but nobody is stepping up and shooting a real good score or close to par. It’s time for us to do that and reach our potential.”

Erica Moston remains the top Spartan performer. She is in a three-way tie for fifth at 149. Freshman Katrina Delen-Briones matched Moston with a 75 and is tied for 14th place at 151.

Miami’s Jessica Steward is the individual leader with a one-under par 143. She has a three-stroke lead of East Carolina’s Colleen Estes, who is at 146.

The 54-hole tournament concludes with 18 holes on February 19.
