The San Jose State women’s golf team opens the 2015 portion of the schedule this weekend at the Peg Barnard Invitational hosted by Stanford University on Saturday and Sunday, February 14 and 15, at the Stanford Golf Course. Admission is free.
The field features 12 teams – Stanford, California, Cal State Northridge, Colorado, Denver, Gonzaga, Oregon, Nevada, UC Irvine, UC Davis, San Francisco and San José State. The teams will play 18 holes each day beginning with shotgun starts at 8:30 a.m. Live scoring is available at https://www.birdiefire.com/tournament/7276/.
San Jose State will feature the same lineup as the fall semester – Regan De Guzman, Elizabeth Schultz, My Leander, Kathleen Rojas and Megan Osland. Fanny Johansson will play as an individual in her first tournament as a Spartan. The team will play with UC Davis and San Francisco on Saturday and will begin on holes 5, 6, 7, and 8.
The Spartans finished sixth at last year’s Peg Barnard Invitational, and Megan Osland tied for 21st. San Jose State has won the team title three teams and the individual title twice – Janice Moodie in 1997 and Vibeke Stensrude in 1996.
After this tournament, the Spartans host the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational on February 23 and 24, at the Almaden Golf & Country Club in South San Jose. Admission is free to the event.
