Spartans Open Spring Season at Qdoba Invitational

San Jose State University, ranked 35th nationally in the GoflStat poll, opens its spring season, Sunday, February 17, in the 54-hole Qdoba Invitational women’s golf tournament.

Hosted by the University of Miami, the three-day event takes place at the par 72 Don Shula Golf Course in Miami Lakes, Fla. Eleven of the 12 teams in the field are listed in GolfStat’s top-100. Virginia (#22), defending champion Louisville (#26), East Carolina (#32) and San Jose State are the top-ranked teams.

“We’re definitely excited to start our season and compete against teams we don’t normally see,” said San Jose State head coach John Dormann, whose team finished second at the event last year’s when it was named the Papa Johns Invitational. “The field is much tougher this year.”

Erica Moston, Cristina Corpus, Katrina Delen-Briones, Kimberly Punyasavatsut and Kanika Minocha are the five players heading to Miami with Dormann.

“We’re familiar with the golf course. It’s a matter of getting back at it, competing again and hoping to be in contention,” added the Spartans coach.

Moston was second individually with a 227 and Corpus tied for fourth at 230 in last year’s tournament.
