Cristina Corpus Ties for 3rd at Philippines Open

Carmona, Cavite, Philippines-----For the second year in a row, Cristina Corpus of San Jose State University finished in the top-five at the Ladies Philippines Open golf championship. Fourth a year ago, the sophomore from San Leandro, Calif., tied for third place in the 86-player field with a three-over par 219 for 54 holes.

Corpus, the top American finisher in the field, had rounds of 74, 71 and 74 on the par 72 Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club course. The San Leandro High product and 2007 Western Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year was fourth at last year’s championship.

Sixteen-year-old Chihiro Ikeda of Japan took top honors with a 214 total. Lydia Ivana Jaya of Indonesia was second at 217.

Players from eight different countries competed in the 46th annual Ladies Philippines Open.

The San Jose State University women’s golf spring season begins, Sunday, February 17, at the three-day, 54-hole Papa Johns Collegiate in Miami, Fla. The Spartans enter the second half of the season ranked 35th nationally by GolfStat.
