Stanford, Calif.--Regan De Guzman shot a two-under 69 in her first round of the fall to lead the San José State women's golf team at the Stanford Intercollegiate hosted by Condoleezza Rice Friday.  The Spartans are tied for 11th with Auburn at 294 after round one on the par 71 Stanford Golf Course.

De Guzman, who is tied for fourth with seven other players, made four birdies on her round.  She started the day with a birdie on #2, followed by bogeys on the next two holes.  De Guzman then made seven consecutive bogeys before making birdies on three of her final seven holes.   Her 69 is the lowest round shot by a Spartan player this semester.

"It was great to have Regan back on the course with us," said Spartan head coach John Dormann.  "Not only does she provide us with low scores, she eases the pressure off of everyone else on the team.

"Regan started a bit shaky, but around hole #7, she figured out her swing and played fine the rest of the day."

My Leander shot a 73 in her first round, making par on 14 of her first 15 holes of the day.  She finished the round with bogey, birdie, bogey to tie for 35th at 73.  Rachelle Reali and Megan Osland each shot 76 and are tied for 62nd.  Alexandra Kristofersson shot a 78 to round out the Spartan scoring to tied for 72nd.

"We need to have four to five more good scores and have a good finish to the tournament," said Dormann.

Second round action begins at 8:30 a.m., with the Spartans starting on #10 in nine-minute intervals.  Live scoring can be found at www.golfstat.com.
