Stanford, Calif.— Regan De Guzman shot a two-under 69 for the low round of the day for the San José State women’s golf team in the final round of the Stanford Intercollegiate hosted by Dr. Condoleezza Rice.  The Spartans finished 14th in the team standings at 899 on the par 71 Stanford Golf Course.

De Guzman played her first nine holes (#10-#18) at two over with seven pars and bogeys on #13 and #18.  She started her final nine holes with a birdie on hole one, followed by birdies on #4, #7 and #8.  De Guzman made pars on the other five holes to go four-under over her last nine holes.  She finished the tournament tied for 40th at 222.

“Regan had a great round today, and hopefully this round kick starts her for Las Vegas next week,” said Spartan head coach John Dormann.

My Leander was the team’s top-finisher at the tournament.  She shot a 74 in the final round to finish 37th in the individual standings.  She started the final round with 11 consecutive pars, followed by a birdie on #3 and two more pars to go to one-under.  The last four holes gave Leander the most problems as she was four-over par over those holes to finish three-over.  For the tournament, Leander finished tied for fifth in pars made with 42.

Elizabeth Schultz shot a 75 in the final round to finish 61st at 227.  Freshman Cristina Glebova made just one birdie in the final round after making four in each of the first two rounds.  She finished the day at 81 to place 67th at 229.  Fanny Johansson rounded out the team’s scoring with an 82 and was 89th at 247.

Stanford won its own tournament after shooting a five-under 279 in the final round and ended at 847, seven shots better than second-place Southern California.  In all, nine of the top-25 teams in the Golfstat rankings competed at the tournament.  No team competing at the tournament ranked lower than 69.

Bronte Law, from UCLA, won the individual title at eight-under 205, three shots better than Marissa Chow from Pepperdine.  Law shot a 68 in the final round.

“This tournament provided us with very valuable experience,” said Dormann.  “The level of competition and the course setup were championship quality.  We are excited to play against another strong field next week.”

The Spartans finish the fall season next week at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, October 25-27, in Boulder City, Nev.
