Stanford, Calif.— My Leander and Cristina Glebova each shot a 73 on Monday for the San José State women’s golf team in the second round of the Stanford Intercollegiate hosted Dr. Condoleezza Rice at the par-71 Stanford Golf Course.  The Spartans shot a 296 and moved into a tie for 13th place with Washington State in the team standings.

Leander is now tied for 26th at 147.  She started her round (off #10) strong with a birdie and five pars, but a double bogey on #16 found her at one-over par 37 after nine holes.  On the front nine, she made a birdie on #6, but bogeys on #2 and #5 found her at 35 for the last nine holes and a 73 on the day.

Glebova made four more birdies in the second round and is tied for sixth-most birdies made during the tournament at eight.  After making bogey on her first hole of the day, she sank consecutive birdies on #11 and #12, but three bogeys over the next six holes had her at 38 after nine holes.

On the front nine, Glebova shot an even-par 35 with birdies on #4 and #8, but had bogeys on #3 and #5.  She ended the day tied for 39th at 148.

Elizabeth Schultz and Regan De Guzman each shot a 75 in the second round.  Schultz is tied for 62nd at 152, while De Guzman is tied for 65th at 153.  Fanny Johansson rounded out the scoring with an 83 and is tied for 88th at 165.

The Spartans were eight shots better in the second round and moved into a tie for 13th place in the team standings.  Stanford continues to lead its tournament after shooting a three-under 281 in the second round and has a three-shot lead over UCLA, 568-571.

“We played better today,” said Spartan coach John Dormann. “In my 18-plus years of coming here, there are some unique hole locations that I have never seen.  These locations require you to precise with your shots. We have to be accurate off the tee to put ourselves in birdie opportunities.  We have to make birdies on the par-5 holes.”

Final round tee times begin at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday.  The Spartans start at 8:15 a.m. off of hole 10 with Washington State and Vanderbilt.
