Wolcott, Colo.--With temperatures in the high 40s and a wet golf course, the San Jose State women's golf team shot a 320, good for 12th place, in the opening round of the Golfweek Conference Challenge at the Red Sky Golf Club near Vail, Colo.

Megan Osland shot the low round of the day for the team with a 77.  With the team starting on #10, she made two birdies in the first six holes and was +1 after nine holes.  Osland made three consecutive pars, but bogeys on four of her last six holes found her at +5 for the round.

Newcomer My Leander shot a 79 to begin her tournament.  She started the round with a birdie on #10 six pars over the next eight holes to also be +1 at the turn.  Leander made five pars over her last nine holes, but double bogeys on #4 and #7 two other bogeys combined to give her a 79.

Rachelle Reali finished the round with an 81, followed by Alexandra Kristofersson with an 83 and Kim Cifuentes at 85.

"We did not play well today," said Spartan associate head coach Dana Dormann.  "The course is very hilly, and the greens are challenging.  We are very disappointed with our performance and hope to have a better grasp of the course tomorrow."

Round two begins at 9:45 a.m. MDT for the Spartans.  The team will begin off of #10 in nine minute intervals.  Live scoring is available at www.golfstat.com.
