Fort Collins, Colo.--The San José State University women's golf team tied for the lowest round shot on the day to finish second at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic at the Ptarmigan Country Club.  Elizabeth Schultz shot the low individual round of the day and finished tied for second at even par 216.

San José State shot a 296 in the third round and finished second at 880, four shots behind first-place BYU.  The Spartans led the tournament field in par-5 scoring at -4, and were second in birdies made with 41.  The team made 13 birdies during the final round, including six by Schultz.

Schultz shot a three-under, 69, in the final round to finish tied for second with Hannah Sodersten of Fresno State at even-par 216.  Through her first 12 holes played in the final round (#4-15), Schultz was five-under par before bogeys on #16 and #18 and three consecutive pars found her finishing at 69.  She made six birdies during her round and finished the tournament with 11 to tie for the tournament lead.

Regan De Guzman finished tied for fifth at two-over 218, giving San José State two players in the top-five.  She shot a 75 in the final round and made three birdies during the round.

My Leander shot a 74 and finished tied for 23rd at 227.  She had a solid round with two birdies and 12 pars made and was one-under par through her first eight holes played (#5-12).

Alexandra Cooper and Fanny Johansson tied for 55th at 232.  Cooper shot an 82, while Johansson shot a 78 in the third round.

"We are excited about the start to our season," said Spartan head coach John Dormann.  "We still have things we need to improve and already have plans on how to get better and more confident.

"There are lots of positives from this tournament.  We managed to comeback from our opening round to post two nice scores.  Liz had a great tournament, and six birdies in a round is a great performance. Regan was solid throughout, and My had two good rounds.  Every player contributed at least two rounds to our team score, and these performances are a good start to our year."

The Spartans play next at the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate, September 26 and 27 in Palm Desert.
