South Bend, Ind.--The San Jose State women's golf team shot a 310 at the first round of the NCAA South Bend Regional at the Warren Golf Course on Thursday. The team is tied for 16th with Troy, while Duke leads the regional with an even-par 288.

Each Spartan player made just one birdie during her round. Megan Osland led the Spartans with a 76 and is tied for 39th. After shooting four-over on her first nine holes (10-18), she was even over her final nine holes (1-9). Osland made her birdie on the par-5 second hole and added seven pars and a bogey on #8 on the last nine holes. She finished the day with 13 pars made.

Regan De Guzman shot a 77, and is tied for 49th. She made her only birdie on #1 and 11 pars during the round.

Kathleen Rojas shot a 78 with a 38 over her first nine holes and is tied for 61st. My Leander shot a 79 to tie for 70th, while Elizabeth Schultz rounded out the Spartan scoring with an 80, tying for 80th place..

"This was a disappointing way to start the regional," said Spartan head coach John Dormann. "We worked so hard all year to get here, and this was not the way we wanted to play. We did not strike the ball well and did not take advantage of the par-5 holes. We made very few birdies and cannot play that way here."

The Spartans begin second-round play Friday morning at 9:39 a.m. EDT/6:39 a.m. PDT off of hole 10 with Troy and Youngstown State.
