Napa, Calif.-- The San Jose State women's golf team shot a 302 in the first round of the Silverado Showdown on Sunday at the Silverado Resort and Spa North Course.
The Spartans ended the day in 14th-place, and are within 12 shots of third place. Stanford leads the tournament with a five-under 283.
My Leander led the Spartans on Sunday with a one-over 73 to tie for 21st place. She made two birdies and 13 pars during her round.
Alexandra Cooper and Franziska Friedrich are tied for 52nd place after each shot a 76 in the first round. Cooper had one birdie and 11 pars made during her round. Friedrich started the day with five bogeys over her first nine holes (#10-18) but rebounded over the final nine holes with eight pars and a birdie on the par-five, 487-yard #5.
"We struggled all day to hit the fairways. We made too many undisciplined plays that left us in poor positions to play from," said Spartan head coach John Dormann. "Hopefully, we will bounce back and have a better performance tomorrow."
The Spartans begin the second round on Monday with tee times beginning at 8:45 a.m. off of hole #10, with Gonzaga and Texas Tech. Fans can follow live scoring at http://www.golfstatresults.com/public/leaderboards/gsnav.cfm?pg=team&tid=10916.
