Three Spartans finished the day in the top-20.  My Leander and Abegail Arevalo each shot an even-par 72 and are tied for fourth place. They are five shots behind the leader, Lilia Vu of UCLA who shot a five-under 67.

Elizabeth Schultz is tied for 16th after shooting a two-over 74. She started her day on the par-five #15 with a birdie, but followed that with a double-bogey on #16 to go to +1 through two holes. The Spartans made the second-highest number of pars on the day with 60, and the third highest number of birdies at 11.

"We had a good overall performance by everyone today," said San José State head coach John Dormann. "The conditions, wind, speed and grain of the greens make this course a challenge. We need to improve our short games over the next couple of days."

Second round action begins Tuesday morning at 7:45 a.m. HT/10:45 a.m. PT. The Spartans begin the round on holes 1-5 with UCLA, Colorado and Arizona State.
