Tucson, Ariz.—Senior Regan De Guzman recorded her fifth top-20 finish of the 2015-16 season as she shot a 72 in the final round of the MountainView Collegiate Saturday afternoon.  The San José State women’s golf team finished eighth out of 15 teams.

De Guzman finished tied for 13th at two-over 218, after shooting an even-par 72.  Her final round started with eight consecutive pars (8-15) before a birdie on #16 and three more pars.  She then made bogey on #2 and #4 to go one-over before a birdie on #6 left her at even par for the round.  De Guzman tied for second among all players for pars made in the tournament with 40.

The next three Spartan finishers were within one shot of each other.  Elizabeth Schultz shot a 77 during the final round and finished tied for 24th at 222.  She made one birdie and 14 pars in the last round, but three double bogeys left her at 77.

My Leander finished one shot behind Schultz at 223 to tie for 30th.  She shot a two-over 74, making three birdies and 10 pars.  Abegail Arevalo finished one shot behind Leander at 224 to tie for 34th.  She had two birdies and 12 pars during her final round.  Alexandra Cooper rounded out the Spartan lineup by finishing 85th at 254.

San José State finished the tournament in eighth place at 887 after shooting a 297 in the final round.  Georgia won the team title at five-under 859.

“We played with better consistency this week,” said Spartan head coach John Dormann.  “We have four players capable of playing very good golf.  We need to find a fifth player that can help those four compete going forward.”

San José State next competes at the Silverado Showdown, April 3-5, at the Silverado Resort and Spa.
