Four Spartans Score In Double-Figures

San Jose, Calif.----San Jose State trailed 48-19 at the half and fell 102-62 against the Aggies of UC Davis Tuesday, December 21 at The Event Center. Trying to find their first win of the season, the Spartans fall to 0-11 overall while the Aggies improve to 9-2.

Myesha Broaden came up big for the Spartans with a career-best 19 points. Joining her in double-figures was Brittany Johnson with 16 points, Sayja Sumler with 11 points, and 10 points from Sara Plavljanin.

"Myesha stepped up big for us in the second half," said head coach Pam DeCosta. "Hopefully we can get that from her on a consistent basis which would really help us out."

Paige Mintun added 18 points and six rebounds for the Aggies. Samantha Meggison scored 14 points and sophomore guard Hannah Stephens pitched in with 12, canning four treys.

"In our last few games our kids have played well," explained coach DeCosta. "We found our offense, but we need to work on our defense and tie both ends together."

The Spartans were held to 30% shooting in the first half, but more than doubled their shooting percentage with 63% in the second half.

The Aggies led 6-0 two minutes into the game before netting 20 straight points to take a 26-2 lead at 10:46 of the first half. After going scoreless for more than seven minutes, Sumler made a layup at 10:10 which sprouted a 4-0 run by the Spartans to make it 26-8 at the 7:17 mark. Going into the locker room at half, the Spartans found themselves down 48-19.

The second half brought more offense from both teams. San Jose State went 17-of-27 from the floor while UC Davis matched the Spartans' shooting percentage, also shooting 17-of-27. The Aggies' shot 9-of-14 from the arc for 64.3%, campared to the Spartans' 2-of-6 (33.3%). UC Davis extended the lead to 41 points in the second half before finishing at 102-62.

Next up, the Spartans will face Mount Saint Mary's on Wednesday, December 29 at The Event Center. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
