WBB Adds JC Co-Player of the Year To 2012-13 Class

San Jose, Calif. - The San Jose State women's basketball program has signed the 2011 California Junior College Co-Player of the Year, Janis Peterson, to a National Letter of Intent. Peterson will begin competing for the Spartans in the 2012-13 season. Head Coach Tim La Kose announced on Thursday.

"Janis was an integral part of our recruiting efforts this year," head coach Tim La Kose said. "We are excited to have her, along with our other four signees, join our program and help return Spartan women's basketball to an elite level."

Peterson, a 6-1 guard at City College of San Francisco, led the California Community College Athletic Association's Coast North Division in scoring, averaging 22.6 points last year. The Rams finished with a 27-6 record, 9-1 in conference play and were the state runner-up. Peterson earned Co-Player of the Year honors for her play.

"Janis was the Player of the Year for a reason," head coach Tim La Kose said. "She creates matchup problems because of her length and ability to score in bunches. Plus, she can play multiple positions."

Peterson joins Riana Byrd,a 6-1 post player out of Inderkum High School in Sacramento, Calif., Jayzyl Tauala,a 5-7 guard from Terra Nova High School in Pacifica, Calif., Paris Baird, a 6-1 forward from the Windward School in Los Angeles, Calif.,and Jasmine Smith, a 6-0 forward from Bellarmine-Jefferson High School in Burbank, Calif., to form one of the strongest recruiting classes in recent San Jose State women's basketball history.
