Women’s Hoops Predicted To Finish Ninth In The MW In 2017-18

Nov. 1, 2017

San Jose, Calif. - The Mountain West Conference released its predicted order of finish for the 2017-18 women’s basketball season on Wednesday and the San José State Spartans have been selected to finish ninth in the 11-team league. Defending tournament champion Boise State is predicted to win the league this year.

In a poll of media members and the conference’s head coaches, the Broncos received seven of a possible 25 first-place votes and a total of 221 points. They edged out Wyoming (six first place votes and 216 points) and Colorado State (six first place votes and 211 points) for the top spot.

Losing four of its five starters from last season to graduation, San José State is the second youngest team in the nation with 12 of its 15 players being freshmen or sophomores. Senior guard Myzhanique Ladd, who averaged 8.4 points and 6.3 rebounds per game in 2016-17, is the only starter back from last year’s team, which went 7-11 in conference play.

The Spartans open the year with an exhibition game against Stanislaus State on Sunday, November 5 at 2:00 p.m. in The Event Center. The regular-season opener is set for Friday, November 10, at #7 UCLA with a 7:00 p.m. tip in Pauley Pavilion.

The Conference also announced its Preseason All-Mountain West selections, Player, Freshman and Newcomer of the Year awards as well.
