San José State University Athletics has four core values that guide the program. They are: Academics, Compliance, Welfare of the Student-Athlete and Spartan Pride.

We are committed to doing things the right way, adhering to NCAA and Conference rules and self-reporting when we learn of violations. We have a comprehensive rules education program, and we emphasize the importance of having a culture of compliance in our program at all times.

The violations were isolated to our women's basketball program and occurred over three years ago under the previous coaching staff. The violations were discovered and self-reported by the institution.

The NCAA Committee on Infractions commended San José State for promptly acknowledging and accepting responsibility, imposing meaningful corrective measures and for an established history of self-reporting violations.

The NCAA accepted San José State's self-imposed penalties and imposed a public reprimand, a one-year period of probation and a $5,000 fine. The former head coach received a one-year show-cause penalty to be served at his current institution.

We have learned from this case and will continue to emphasize rules education, compliance and self-reporting of violations in our program. Compliance will always be at the heart of everything we do in our athletics program.
