San Jose, Calif. – San José State senior guard Ta’Rea Cunnigan has been named to the 2014-15 Preseason Mountain West All-Conference Team by a vote of the leagues 11 head coaches and media representatives.  The announcement came from the Mountain West Conference office on Tuesday.

Cunnigan, who receives the honor for the second year in a row, led the Spartans in scoring last year, averaging 18.3 points per game, and ranked second in that category in the Mountain West.  She reached double figures in 29 of the team’s 30 games.

The Chaparral High School graduate ranked first on the team in steals (50) and minutes (968) and was the only player to start every game in 2013-14.  Her 23 blocked shots, 83 assists, .754 free throw percentage and 49 3-pointers were the second most on the squad last season.

Cunnigan, who hails from Winchester, Calif., ranks fourth all-time on the Spartans’ women’s basketball scoring list with 1,495 career points.  She begins her senior campaign 265 points away from setting the San José State women’s basketball career scoring record and 271 from the school’s overall basketball career scoring mark (men or women).

Named an Honorable Mention All-Mountain West performer following the 2013-14 season, Cunnigan ranks in the top-10 of eight more of the program’s career lists including second in free throws (425) and free throw attempts (576) and fifth in both free throw percentage (.738) and steals (204).

Boise State’s Deanna Weaver, Colorado State’s Ellen Nystrom, Alex Sheedy of Fresno State and Preseason Player of the Year Kayla Woodward of Wyoming join Cunnigan on the Preseason All-Conference Team. San Diego State’s McKynzie Fort earned Preseason Freshman of the Year honors and Camille Redmon of Boise State has been named the Preseason Newcomer of the Year.
