Mountain West Schedule Announced For Women's Hoops

June 21, 2016

San Jose, Calif. - The Mountain West Conference, from its offices in Colorado Springs, Colo., announced its 2016-17 women's basketball schedule Tuesday, comprising 198 games contested over 10 weeks.

The schedule, which opens on December 29 with the Spartans hosting Nevada, includes 18 games for each of the 11 league institutions and culminates with the 2017 Mountain West Women's Basketball Championship at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nev., March 6-10.

After its home opener, the Spartans get a bye on December 31, the first of two in league play. The second comes on February 1.

The front half of the schedule is loaded with tough road games. After Nevada, SJSU travels to Colorado State (Jan. 4) and Fresno State (Jan. 7), both of which competed in postseason play last year. The team will also play at Wyoming (Jan. 18) and at Boise State (Jan. 21).

In addition to Nevada, the first half of the home schedule features visits from San Diego State (Jan. 11), Air Force (Jan. 14) and Colorado State (Jan. 25).

The second half of the schedule includes home games against New Mexico (Feb. 4), UNLV (Feb. 11), Fresno State (Feb. 15), Boise State (Feb. 25) and Wyoming (Mar. 3).

The Spartans will play at San Diego State (Feb. 8), at Air Force (Feb. 15), at Utah State (Feb. 22) and at Nevada (Feb. 28) in their road contests in the second half of the league slate.

In the Mountain West's unbalanced schedule, the Spartans will face New Mexico (home) and Utah State (away) only once and all other member institutions twice.
