San Jose, Calif. - The San José State women's basketball 18-game Mountain West Conference schedule was released on Monday by the conference office in Colorado Springs, Colo. In the unbalanced format, the Spartans will play eight teams in home-and-home series and two teams, Nevada and Colorado State, once each.
"The conference schedule is set and I like the placement of our bye games," head coach Jamie Craighead said. "The new Mountain West Tournament format will give us more motivation to get a bye in the first round and we will pursue a (Mountain West) championship as vigorously as we possibly can, which is always our ultimate goal. "
The Spartans open league play with three of their first four on the road beginning at rival Fresno State on January 2. After the first of its two byes on the schedule, on January 5, the team hits Walt McPherson Court for its conference home opener is against Mountain West Tournament runner-up Nevada on January 9. Then it's back out on the road for back-to-back games beginning at reigning Mountain West champion Boise State (Jan. 12) and at Utah State (Jan. 16).
San José State returns to The Event Center to host UNLV and Wyoming on January 19 and 23, respectively. After a game at Air Force (Jan. 26), the team is back home on January 30, against Utah State and finishes the first half of the schedule at San Diego State on February 2.
The back half of the conference slate begins with the team's second bye, on February 6, followed by back-to-back home games against Boise State (Feb. 9) and New Mexico (Feb. 13).
The Spartans then heads to Las Vegas, Nev., to take on UNLV (Feb. 16) followed by a game at Colorado State (Feb. 20).
The final five games start in The Event Center with a game against Air Force (Feb. 23). SJSU then plays at New Mexico (Feb. 27); are back home against San Diego State (Mar. 2), and the final road game is at Wyoming (Mar. 4).
The regular season wraps up on Senior Night against Fresno State (Mar. 7).
The 2019 Mountain West Women's Basketball Championship, in the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, begins with first-round games on Sunday, March 10 and the championship game is set for 7:00 p.m. (PT) on Wednesday, March 13.
