San Jose, Calif. - Jamiyla DeBoise, a 6-0 shooting guard/post, out of Houston, Texas' Westside High School, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play women's basketball at San Jose State beginning in the 2012-13 school year. Head Coach Tim La Kose made the announcement.
DeBoise averaged 11.7 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.7 steals and 1.1 assists per game in leading Westside (coach Troy Gillespie) to a 22-8 record overall, 9-2 in league play this past season. She earned All-District 20 honors as well as Spring Branch Independent School District All-Tournament selection for her play this season. As a junior she was recognized as a second-team all-district performer.
De Boise joins Emily Schill, a 6-1 forward and native of Melbourne, Australia who played for Box Hill Academy, the two-time defending Victoria State Champions; Janis Peterson, a 6-1 guard at City College of San Francisco, who led the California Community College Athletic Association's Coast North Division in scoring, averaging 22.6 points last year and earned state Co-Player of the Year honors; Riana Byrd, a 6-1 post player out of Inderkum High School in Sacramento, Calif.; Jayzyl Tauala, a 5-7 guard from Terra Nova High School in Pacifica, Calif.; Paris Baird, a 6-1 forward from the Windward School in Los Angeles, Calif.; and Jasmine Smith, a 6-0 forward from Bellarmine-Jefferson High School in Burbank, Calif., to further bolster one of the strongest recruiting classes in recent San Jose State women's basketball history.
