Women's Hoops Downed At Idaho

February 2, 2011

Moscow, ID----The San Jose State women's basketball team fell behind 36-15 at half and lost to Idaho 62-41 Wednesday night at the Cowan Spectrum.

The Spartans (2-19, 2-6 WAC) did have two players in double figures on the night, including Brittany Johnson, who was one rebound away from her third double-double of the season scoring game-highs, 12 points and nine boards. Sayja Sumler joined her in double figures scoring 10 points. Sara Plavljanin had a team-high three assists.

The Vandals turned the ball over 13 times in the second half, and the Spartans took avantage of Idaho's costly mistakes notching 14 points off turnovers. San Jose State was able to match Idaho's 26 points in the half.

"We can't fall behind double-digits to start games and come out in the second half and tie our opponents in scoring," said head coach Pam DeCosta. "That has been the story of our conference season.  It shows we have the ability to play against teams in the WAC, but we have to be consistent and be able to score in both halves."

The Vandals (12-8, 5-3 WAC) started the game on 22-3 run and led by as much as 29 early in the second frame. Idaho got 16 of its 36 points off of turnovers in the first half and finished the night shooting 44.7 percent from the floor to the Spartans' 28.3 percent.

Ten different Vandals made entries in the scoring column. Rachele Kloke scored a team-high 11 points and Emily Doran led the Vandals with eight boards.

San Jose State returns home on Saturday, February 5 to face the Nevada Wolf Pack at 7:00 p.m.
