Women's Hoops Downed At Boise State

January 13, 2011

Boise, Idaho----San Jose State trailed 43-14 at the half, and lost 83-51 to Boise State Thursday night, January 13. The loss drops the Spartans to 0-16 and 0-3 in WAC play. The Broncos (10-7, 1-2 WAC) picked up their first conference win of the 2010-11 season.

Senior forward Marnesha Hall appeared in her first game of the season after being diagnosed with exertional compartment syndrome two months before the season began causing her to experience severe leg pain. Hall started for the Spartans, played 31 minutes, grabbed five rebounds and scored five points.

"I thought having Marnesha back really helped us out, especially in the inside," said head coach Pam DeCosta. "In the minutes she gave us, I thought she was very productive and it's going to be great having her back."

San Jose State was paced by Sara Plavljanin with 13 points. Plavljanin has come to life on the glass recently, leading the team in points in back-to-back contests. The Spartans did see some balance on the score sheet with Sayja Sumler scoring 10 and AJ Newton chipping in with nine. Brittany Johnson grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.

Kati Isham led the Broncos with 20 points followed with Melissa Rima's 15 points and nine boards.

The Spartans showed a tremendous amount of fight in the second half scoring 37 points to the Broncos' 40, but the Broncos had an answer all night, hitting 11 timely three-pointers, scoring 33 points off of turnovers, and holding the Spartans to 35.2 percent from the field.

"The first half we didn't show up," added head coach Pam DeCosta. "We came out in the second half and played a lot more aggressive. We played like the team we know we can be, but we need to learn how to play for 40 minutes."

San Jose State will return home to face the Idaho Vandals on Thursday, January 20. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at The Event Center.
