Women's Basketball Preview:

San Jose Calif.----San Jose State women's basketball (0-13) will open conference play against Western Athletic Conference foe Louisiana Tech (8-5) on Thursday, January 6 at The Event Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.

KSJS (90.5 FM, San Jose) originates San Jose State University basketball broadcasts. Nolan Rak will be calling the women's basketball play-by-play. Air time for the Louisiana Tech broadcast on KSJS is 4:30 p.m. (PST). Fans out of the area can listen on the website at www.ksjs.org.

Women's Basketball Ticket Prices:

Tickets for all San Jose State home women's basketball games are $5 for adults, $3 for youth 12 and under, and free admission to all students with a valid SJSU ID. Also, groups of 20 or more can buy discounted tickets of $3 per person. The ticket office opens two hours prior to tip-off at The Event Center or can be purchased by calling the San Jose State Athletics Ticket Office at 408-924-SJTX (7589.

Scouting Louisiana Tech:

The lady Techsters are led by head coach Teresa Weatherspoon who finished 23-9 in 2009-10 - her first full year as the head coach. Weatherspoon returns three starters and eight letterwinners from last year's team who captured the 2010 Western Athletic Conference Tournament title and advanced to the program's 26th NCAA Tournament.

Adrienne Johnson who was named the WAC player of the week for December 27-January 2, averages 21.5 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. The Lady Techsters bring an 8-5 overall record to San Jose State, coming off an 83-61 win against Southern Miss at home on January 2.

The Series With The Lady Techsters:
San Jose State is 0-18 against the Lady Techsters. Last year the Spartans dropped both games, 92-48 at home and 81-66 at Louisiana Tech.

Last Outing:
Despite leading the first 20 minutes, the Spartans fell short to rival Santa Clara 44-37 on Sunday, January 2. San Jose State went on a 12-2 run to open the game and built-up a 17-6 lead at 8:30 as the Spartans held the 25-23 edge at half.

Santa Clara's first lead, 29-28, came with 13:30 left, but San Jose State answered with a 7-2 run to lead 35-31 with 9:48 to play. The Spartans would manage just two points over the final 9:48.

San Jose State's leading scorer Brittany Johnson did not suit up after suffering a knee injury versus Mount Saint Mary's on December 29. AJ Newton tallied a Spartan-high 18 points and Marisa Williams grabbed seven boards.

WAC Openers:
Since joining the WAC for the 1996-97 season, San Jose State is 5-9 in WAC openers. The Spartans won five-straight openers from 2002-06 before losing the past four WAC openers.

First Career Double-Doubles:
Two San Jose State players this season recorded their first career double-doubles. The latest, Myesha Broaden, grabbed 10 rebounds and tipped in 14 points versus Mount Saint Mary's on December 29. Brittany Johnson notched two double-doubles this season, one against Cal Poly (16 points, 10 rebounds) on December 18 and at San Francisco (11 points, 11 rebounds) on November 15.

Grabbing The Round Ball: 

Brittany Johnson leads the Spartan team in rebounding with 5.1 per game. She grabbed a career-best 11 rebounds against San Francisco. Myesha Broaden averages 4.8 rebounds and Sayja Sumler trails with 4.6 rebounds per game.

Dishing Out The Round Ball: 

AJ Newton leads the team in assists with 29 and dished out six assists at University of the Pacific (11/19). Sara Plavljanin produced 24 and Liz Johnson dished out 22 this season.

Stealing The Game:

Sayja Sumler grabbed a team-high 19 steals this season. Sumler snatched a season-best six against Mount Saint Mary's. Sara Plavljanin produced 15, while Brittany Johnson and Liz Johnson follow with 12 steals this season.

Get That Out Of Here: 

On defense, Myesha Broaden is trying to keep the ball out of opponents hands as she leads the Spartans with eight blocked shots. Broaden recorded a season-high two blocks against Mount Saint Mary's. Brittany Johnson notched seven thus far including two against Weber State.

Racking Up The Frequent Flyer Miles:

With close to 21,000 miles of travel this season, the Spartans are projected to log 19,697 air miles and 1,301 miles of ground transportation in 2010-11.

Starting Lineups: 

In 13 games played this year, San Jose State has used 10 different starting lineups. Brittany Johnson has started in 12 games this season, while AJ Newton and Sara Plavljanin have 10 each. Myesha Broaden has eight, Sayja Sumler trails with seven, while Dominique Hamilton, Leonie Solia, and Liz Johnson notched four. Rounding out with a pair of starts is Monique Coble and Marisa Williams has one.

The 2011 Western Athletic Conference Tournament will be held March 9-12 in Las Vegas, Nev., at the Orleans Arena.
