San Jose, Calif. - A 33-7 run over the final 8:23 was too much for UC Davis to weather as the San José State women's basketball team ran its home record to 3-0 after an 89-75 win in the Event Center on Wednesday night.

The Spartans (5-4), the nation's highest scoring team at 92.8 points per game, trailed 68-56 with just under eight and a half minutes to play.  But over the next five minutes went on an 21-2 run.  Ta'Rea Cunnigan started the spurt with a layup, then stole the ball and fed Chereese Thomas on a 3-pointer to make it a seven-point game.

The teams traded buckets before Rebecca Woodberry, who finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds, hit a pair of free throws and a trey to make it a two-point game 70-68 with 5:22 to play.

Cunnigan tied the game on a layup and gave the Spartans a lead they would never relinquish with a pair of free throws at 4:41.  On the night she was 6-for-6 from the line and moved into first place on the program's career free throw list.  She passed Cricket Williams (466 free throws, 2001-04) and has made 471 in her career.

On the next Aggies possession, Baker stole the ball and turned it into a layup.  After a pair of Rachol West free throws and another Woodberry 3-pointer, SJSUhad turned a 12-point defecit into a nine-point lead in five minutes.  With 3:14 to go they held a 79-70 advantage.

UC Davis (4-5) fouled to stop the clock and try to slow the San José State onslaught, but the Spartans hit 8-of-8 from the line down the stretch and secured the 14-point victory.

During the final eight minutes, the Aggies were just 2-of-13 from the field.  The Spartans forced them in to five turnovers and they got no second-chance points.

In additon to Woodberry's double double, four other Spartans were in double figures.  Cunnigan and Riana Byrd had 14 each.
Jasmine Smith scored 10.  Baker, playing against the school where she began her collegiate career, chipped in with 12, had five assists and four steals.  Emily Vann, who also played two years at UC Davis, before transferring to San José State, had five points and grabbed two rebounds.

The Spartans turned the Aggies over 22 times and scored 28 point off those misques.   And made 17-of-20 from the charity stripe, including 15 in the second half.

UC Davis' Alyson Doherty had a game high 22 points and 11 rebounds.  Sydney Fipps also added 22 points, but was limited to just seven in the second half

The Spartans have 10 days off before returning to action on December 20 at San Francisco.
