Las Vegas, Nev. --- The Spartans have made big runs all year long and they did it again with their season on the line in the second round of the Mountain West Championship Tournament. But the second half surge came up just short and the #8-San José State women's basketball team lost to top-seeded Colorado State, 65-60.

Trailing by 13 points with 2:06 left in the third quarter, the Spartans (11-21) closed the period on a 10-0 run to make it 45-42 Rams lead to begin the fourth. A pair of free throws by Myzhanique Ladd, back-to-back threes by Taylor Tourney and Hallie Gennett plus a Paris Baird jumper accounted for the run.

The two teams went back-and-forth throughout the fourth quarter, but Colorado State (24-7) made its last four shots from the field and 6-of-6 from the line in the final minute to close out San José State.

A day after scoring 34 points in the opening round, senior Dezz Ramos scored 19 points but was just 4-of-20 from the field. Despite a tough day shooting, she hit clutch shots down the stretch of her final game as a Spartan.

Ramos made two from the foul line - where she was 8-for-8 - to make it 49-46 with 6:30 left in the fourth. Then she buried a three that made it 53-51 with 3:41 to go. She went back to the line with 2:06 remaining and sank two free throws to make it 57-56 CSU lead. The front end was her 11th point of the game and her 744th of the season, giving her the San José State single-season scoring record passing men's basketball player Adrian Oliver who scored 743 in 2010-11. Ramos ended the game with a team-high 19 points and a new single-season record 752 points.

The same about clutch shots in her final game can be said for Jasmine Smith who finished with 12 points. She kept the Spartans rolling to start the fourth quarter with a jumper at the 8:28 mark and a physical layup with 5:46 to go. Both shots brought SJSU back to within one possession of Colorado State's lead.

Colorado State had four players in double-figure scoring, led by Sofie Gustavsson with 26 points. She grabbed 12 rebounds for a double-double and teammate Ellen Nystrom had a double-double as well with 17 points and 12 boards. The two combined for 14 of CSU's 20 points in the fourth quarter. Stine Austgulen with 11 points and Hannah Tvrdy with 10 were the other Rams in double-figures.

The Spartans shot 32.8 percent (20-61) compared to 44.2 percent (23-52) for the Rams. SJSU limited Colorado State to a season-low 1-for-11 from 3-point range. The Spartans were 9-of-25 from downtown.
