San Jose, Calif. – This week the San José State women’s and men’s cross country teams head to Seattle, Wash., to compete in the 2017 NCAA Division I West Regional Championship.

Course: Flat fairways crossing some cart paths
Head Coach Brad Wick’s Spartans will battle 30 of the best cross country programs in the west on Friday morning at Jefferson Park Golf Course in Seattle. The course consists of multiple 2k loops on flat fairways crossing some cart paths and has been the site of the NCAA West Regional Championships in both 2012 and 2015.
Both races will be streamed live, for a fee, on flotrack.com. A link to the stream as well as results will be on each of the team’s schedule pages.
Sandoval finished 55th in last year’s Championship, tops among the team members competing on Friday. The women’s team was 19th out of 35 teams last year.
The best individual women’s finisher since 2000 is Tiffany Hall, who was 29th in the 2006 West Regional Championship. That year the team finished 15th, its best result since 2000.
The top finish in the Championship, among Spartan runners competing this year, is Zeratsion, who was 74th in the 2016 West Regional Championship.
The best individual men’s finisher since 1984 was Jose Pina, who was eighth in last season’s West Regional Championship and was the first Spartans to qualify for the NCAA Cross Country Championships since Daniel Gonzales in 1984.
Last year the Spartans’ men’s team finished 11th out of 29 schools that competed, that is the best result in records dating to 2000.
